When we are planning things each day, week, month, and so on, what do we think about first? We usually think about what we want and need to do, and figure out how we can make that work with our available time, finances, conflicts, etc. It’s typical to make a plan for what we want to do, and then try to figure out how to make it happen. But how often do you think about God when you are making plans, and what He wants for you?
God’s plan for us is exceedingly better than any plan that we can have for ourselves. We often go to God and pray about what we think we want / need, and then ask Him to make what we want happen. But, what about what God wants for us? In the Bible, Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” When we’re praying, we can let our requests be known to Jesus, and then need to ask Him to guide us and show us what He wants for us.
Most days, I find my self praying for what I want to happen, and ask Jesus to please do this thing, or please help make that happen, etc. I need to change that habit, and I challenge myself as well as all of you, to consider God when making plans. Take the time to pray and ask for Jesus’ will to be done; then wait and listen for Him. Jeremiah 29:11 says, ‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Scripture clearly tells us that the Lord has great plans for us, so we need to talk to Him, ask Him to show us what is best, and then trust His will to be done.
